When in a destination field, performing a search and creating another field fast by typing "tab" will cancel the autocompletion request. I would expect the autocompletion to be performed completely as this enables "power users" to enter their destination emails faster without worrying about the completion result. An exception to this might be when more than one result is returned, in which case the entered field could be set in red, as should be the address is invalid.
