We were using an old Sun WCAP Calendar server and we had no clear upgrade path for it. It didn't support CALDAV or any mobile devices. We had a look at a few alternatives and eventually tried SOGo. Installation via yum was really easy and we had it talking to our LDAP and IMAP servers very quickly - one of the great things about SOGo is that it will use your existing directory and IMAP servers. We've started moving our users onto the SOGo server and the migration has gone very smoothly. People are very happy - especially those who can now see their calendars on their mobile devices. The web interface is a real bonus - extremely well done and easy to use. Added to all that, the SOGo team and the people on the forums are all very patient, knowledgeable and helpful. All in all, SOGo has been a great experience for our systems administrators and users alike.

We were looking for a Calendaring system to fulfill our requirements for a highly available groupware solution that would integrate well into our current open source based email infrastructure (both on the client and the server). After looking at several open source solutions we were either not happy with the feature set, level of modularity or the support services available. Then we hit upon SOGo. The software itself seemed to easily meet our requirements, with tight integration with Mozilla Thunderbird and the Lightning plugin, as well as a slick web based access system for email and calendaring features (which emulates Thunderbird closely enough that the transition would be simple for our users). However what we were really impressed by was the level of support available from Inverse. It is important for us to know that our open source based products will be well supported and maintained, and Inverse have been extremely helpful to us in this regard. The installation was one of the best planned, and smoothly implemented I have ever had the pleasure of overseeing, and any subsequent queries or bugs have been dealt with in an efficient, friendly and timely manner. The tight coupling with Lightning is also a definite plus, with any required changes being quickly implemented and then contributed to the open source community. All in all, I would give the SOGo/Inverse combination 10 out of 10 for features, support and ease of administration.

Realizing that our then current calendar application would not integrate into the mobile world, we started looking at other applications, including Microsoft Exchange. We needed a solution that would sync with a multitude of mobile devices as well as be user friendly. We discovered SOGo in it's early stages and immediately liked it. SOGo followed a open source concept that we use here at GULF. It also ties directly into our current e-mail application and has the ability to sync with today's modern mobile devices. We spoke with Inverse and made a decision to move forward with them. We liked where SOGo was heading, and the support for SOGo is second to none! We currently have SOGo serving 300 users for calendaring and task management.

We discovered SOGo while looking for an open source groupware solution, that would integrate nicely into our existing network. The other solutions we tried out didn't work well with desktop clients because the standards weren't implemented well or required their own mail servers and authentication methods. SOGo integrated nicely, using our existing Postfix/Cyrus IMAP Server/OpenLDAP infrastructure, without a lot of fuss installing it. While SOGo is a quite complex system, it isn't hard to setup, because of the good installation documentation.

Since we already used Thunderbird as desktop client, the Thunderbird look and feel of the Web interface and the excellent Thunderbird integration made it easy for the users to adapt to the system. But it was also assuring to know that SOGo builds on standards like CalDAV, CardDAV, IMAP and SMTP, so that in case we need to change clients, we will be able to keep them connected.

SOGo is not only free as in beer, but in software as well: We can run as many SOGo servers with as many users as we want to without any licensing costs. And when we wanted special features we missed in SOGo, we could have implemented them ourself. But since we don't have the resources to do that, we asked Inverse, the company supporting and developing SOGo, to do them for us. We got a fair price, very good contact and last but not least: Our missed feature in the next stable release, combined with the good feeling of giving something back to the open source software community we have been relying on for so long.

Discovering SOGo allowed us to move away from an expensive and cumbersome groupware system to a reliable, open source solution that meets our users' diverse needs. Using a standards-based suite of services (CalDAV, CardDAV, IMAP and SMTP) allows us the flexibility to provide service to our web users (through SOGo's excellent web GUI), full desktop clients (Thunderbird+Lightning), and mobile users either natively or through the Funambol connector.

Through our implementation the Inverse team was a fount of knowledge and experience. Responses to queries were fast and accurate, allowing us to address installation and performance issues quickly to keep our users satisfied
