Description

I sync my TB with open-xchange via carddav. Everything is fine until a contact with an Umlaut is hit. No error message, but the synchronization stops and never finishes.

When the contact is created in TB with an Umlaut it gets sync'ed to the open-xchange server. But any furhter change on this contacts breaks the sync again.

Steps To Reproduce
  1. Create remote addressbook in open-xchange
  2. Create a contact with an Umlaut in the address book via open-xchange web frontend
  3. Start sync in TB

Let me confirm this issue with Thunderbird 38.3.0 under Windows 7 64-bit and Inverse SOGo Connector 31.0.1. Synchronisation hangs as soon as a contact with umlaut is hit. My CardDAV privder is mailbox.org. It used to work seamlessly (with umlauts) until recently. When umlauts are removed, synchronisation is back to normal.

Synchronisation between my windows phone and the same CardDAV server works fine with umlauts, so it does not seem to be the provider's problem per se.

A fix is highly desirable, since umlauts are an essential part of the German language :-)

Please let me know if I can provide additional information for debugging.

I can confirm this issue on Ubuntu 14.04.5 with Thunderbird 45.2.0 and connector version 31.0.3. Sync is done via CardDAV to an ownCloud instance 8.2.7.
