Summary | 0001827: ZEG Unable to connect to Outlook using the Virtual Appliace
Description | Hi, I found an alternative of the expensive licence of Microsoft exchange ! SOGO ! thanks for your work ! I wanted to try out he virtual machine “ZEG” . I imported into virtual box and it starts and I get a valid IP address which I can ping externaly. I created another virtual box running windows XP and installed Microsoft office 2010. I can ping the Zeg appliance from the xp machine. I can even connect to the sogo server and I can access the webmin console through the XP machine. I modified the hosts file on the 7 machine but outlook will not connect. I go to control panel to mail setup and follow the guide on the sogo.nu site. For the user name I use sogo1, 2, or 3 with the password sogo. I’ve tried "> sogo1@example.com, sogo1, sogo\sogo1 as user names I get nothing. The only thing I get is either “your Microsoft exchange server is unavailable” or “the action could not be completed. The connection to the Microsoft exchange server is unavailable. Outlook must be online or connected to complete this action.” I have exactly the same issue ? PLease Advise and help `?? Thanks for all Laurent

I follow the best practice :http://www.sogo.nu/files/docs/SOGo%20Native%20Microsoft%20Outlook%20Configuration.pdf Users that wish to connect natively to SOGo must be provisioned, for now, in add user to sambasamba-tool domain passwordsettings set --complexity=off create user in openchangeopenchange_newuser --create <username> i follow this steps but when i tried to use the openchange_newuser command line root@sogo:~# openchange_newuser --create test3 Can you please advice ?? Thanks Laurent |
I solved the problem. samba-tool user password "user" but Thanks Laurent |
I don't undesrtand.... were you able to connect after you created those users or not? Btw, you are using a wrong version of Openchange because the "openchange_newuser" command is no longer required since at least january 2012... Why don't you use our pre-built packages instead? |
no we cannot connect with the newly created samba users. what's the next step? the directions do not specify what to do. |
Well.. we know this works since we tested it on many configurations already and others have done so too. Therefore this must be a configuration issue on your side. I would recommend posting a question in our mailing-list or purchase a support plan from us. |

ok, maybe there is a misunderstanding. my issue is with the virtual machine from sogo.nu . i have tried rc1,2, and 3. all have the same issue. using the guide. i create a user using: samba-tool domain passwordsettings set --complexity=off running: openchange_newuser --create <username> generates an error. (and yes i've change the username!) i can change the sogo1,2,and 3 passwords using: sudo samba-tool user setpassword sogo1 then i can connect using outlook but only if i use one of these 3 accounts (sogo1,2,3). how do i add a new account and then use outlook to connect? the instructions are incorrect/incomplete in regards to the pre-made virtual machine. i also tried successfully to add a new user directly to the ldap database using webmin to clone one of the 3 already existing users (sogo1,2,3). i see the user in samba, ldap, and postfix. i can log into the <ipaddress>/SOGo with the user i create. but i can't user outlook to connect. what am i missing? i just want to add a new user to the already pre-made virtual machine and use outlook to access it. thanks for your time!:) |
Same here... From Windows 7 (x64), with Office 2007 I also get "The connection to the Microsoft exchange server is unavailable" |
Oké. If you have issues connecting to the sogo "Exchange" server, make sure you turn off your firewall for real. Some firewalls attach a driver to your network card. You should disable this driver in the "VirtualBox Host-Only Ethernet Adapter".
I use COMODO internet security so mine was "COMODO Internet Security Firewall Driver" Best regards, |
this is "not" a firewall issue. this is a problem with the zeg premade virtual machine for v2rc1,rc2, and rc3. enabling and disabling the firewall does not work. the problem is that the accounts that come pre-setup are sogo1, sogo2, sogo3. you need to change their passwords by using the command: as per this issue 1827 it started with not being able to connect. that issue was fixed by changing the passwords that must have expired for the sogo1, sogo2, and sogo3 accounts. now the problem is with creating new accounts. you can create them in samba but once you try to add them to openchange it fails. i have gone in to webmin and cloned a user in the ldap database as it states under the configuration page of the sogo server of the virtual machine. does anyone know how to do this? i believe it's an issue with the premade virtual machine and how it was built. |
Did you add your user in samba too? AFAIK Webmin only adds it to the LDAP. |
yes by running: samba-tool domain passwordsettings set --complexity=off the error comes when trying to add to openchange backend: openchange_newuser --create <username> the error: what are we missing? i also noticed i had to install the cyradmin package to add e-mail directories etc.. |
also running "samba-tool user list" shows the user i've created. |
i wonder was a package that's needed for this process removed when the virtual machine was configured? i noticed that cyradmin was. i was able to figure out how to add a user and login to sogo through web browser but i can't connect to sogo/openchange through outlook. |
Try again with the version that will be available next week. |
No feedback provided in more than a month, closing. Please also have an other look at our native Outlook configuration guide from http://www.sogo.nu/downloads/documentation.html It has been MUCH updated since the previous release. |
